Project Overview
Does the opportunity of exploring deep inside the restricted areas of a historical battleship sound like an adventure you can't pass up? What if that adventure included an interactive, hands-on escape room/scavenger hunt that enabled you to experience one of the challenges of rescuing the battleship to bring it to Los Angeles?  And what if the entire experience wrapped up with an amazing gourmet hot dog meal with a one-of-a-kind view of the Port of Los Angeles?
If you are selected to participate in the Escape the Mothball Fleet Experience, you and a guest will be invited to participate in the experience which is a hybrid escape room/scavenger hunt that recreates the challenge of rescuing the decommissioned Battleship IOWA from the mothball fleet in Suisun Bay, to bring her down to San Pedro in the Port of Los Angeles. Participants receive a shortened version of the Navy's towing checklist and have tasks to complete in order to "save the ship" from being stuck in the ghost fleet forever - or worse, scrapped, which would mean all of the history of this engineering marvel would be lost forever.
This two-hour tour takes participants into areas of the ship that are off limits to the general public and not even seen on private tours. Up ladders, down passageways, on the hunt for steering locks, bilge alarms, liquid loading diagrams, and more. Solve problems, follow unusual map markers, descend into the bowels of the ship, and save IOWA.
After the completion of the experience, you will be treated to lunch at Vicky's Doghouse Cafe, the gourmet hot dog kitchen on the fantail of Battleship IOWA. Total value of this experience is approximately $300.
